travelers checks or ATM on grenada?

I was in Grenada in Feb/March. We brought very little cash with us. We relied on the ATM machines....the one at the Spiceland Mall never seemed to work. However there is another machine just up by the roundabout that always worked. While we did not try to use travellers cheques I would think it could be a problem in some of the small villages and other out of the way places.
