travel to the B.V.I. from St. John - Customs
I understand if I take a charter from St. John to any of the BVI locations I need a passport. All of the charter companies state that it will cost $25. - $35./p.p for customs. Where does this happen?
How does this work if we were to take a charter to a place the "The Indians" or the caves at Norman Island for some snorkeling? Where do we have to go to clear customs.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

You would likely clear customs in West End, Tortola then continue on to your destination. If you charter, the captain will collect your money and passports and clear all of you while you wait on the boat. If you ferry, you clear yourself.

when i went from st. thomas on charter, that included the baths, we stopped on virgin gorda for customs. it was approx 2 min walk from the dock & went very quickly.
email your charter company if you have a specific question. they'll arrange everything anyway - you don't really need to know anything 8-)

Thank you both for your timely responses. The information was helpful as I wasn't sure if the captain could simply motor us directly to The Indians or Norman without including a stop in Tortola or one of the other BVI.
Thanks again

I agree with Virginia, if your first stop is Virgin Gorda or Jost Van Dyke, you would clear there. If not, it would be Tortola. If you have not defintely decided on what charter to use yet, I HIGHLY recommend Palm Tree Charters with Captain John Brandi. We have gone on his boat a few times and it is top notch.
