Travel hints Grenada trip - $$ and other things to bring?

Hi- going to Grenada in early April for the first time and I am wondering if there is anything special I should bring other than the usual beach supplies? Also, what about money- are credit cards or travelers checks the best source or are ATMs readily available? Is US currency usually accepted or should we get some local currency before we go?
Many Thanks!

Bring all your beach supplies and casual, cool clothing, and you will be fine.

As for money, I have long ago dispensed with travelers checks because I find it a pain to carry them around, bring a pen (or wait for one), wait for change, etc. (Fortunately, I've not regretted the choice -- have never had anything stolen). In Grenada, we have relied mostly on cash, but use our credit cards when possible or charge things to our room to conserve that cash. US Dollars are widely accepted (but the exchange rate is not an easy one to work in your head!), and you'll find yourself getting change in EC or USD or both. I'd be surprised if you were able to find a US bank which even had EC. If you want some local currency for tipping or small purchases.

As for money matters, don't forget the $50EC departure tax payable when you leave. It is paid in CASH only -- I just stuff $20US per person into an envelope before I leave, so I know that if I spend every last dollar on the island, I still have the tax set aside.

US money is accepted widely. No need to get local currency in advance, but it is useful to get some there. Traveller's checks are accepted in most places but not all. Have never used an ATM there.

I prefer to use local currency for everyday purchases, so I take along some traveller's checks and cash small amounts at a bank. The last time I was there, the exchange rate was US$1=EC$2.67. If you purchased items with US currency, you usually got an exchange rate of US$1=EC$2.50. For larger purchases, you usually get the best exchange rate by using a credit card. But read the fine print in your credit card information - some cards (even gold cards) are now charging 2-3% for converting foreign currency.
