travel from PR to DR

I am interested in traveling from Puerto Rico to the Dominican Republic. Can anyone suggest an inexpensive way to travel and where I can get more info?

The cheapest way to get to the Dominican Republic by air is as part of an all-inclusive package tour. Many people book time at an all-inclusive resort and leave their hotel rooms empty part of the time while they explore the rest of the island.

You should also ask on this Dominican board. Good stuff from locals and ex-pats living in the DR.

Thank you both for replying. What about travel by sea? I've been trying to find out about ferry services to no avail. Any info you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Karee,

I had a feeling you were alluding to that in your post. I would ask on the DR1 board if you have not already done so.

There was an overnight ferry that went from Mayaguez (on the Western coast of Puerto Rico, aproximately 4 hours from San Juan) to Santo Domingo. I *think* it was discontinued, but, they may bring it back for the summer season. As suggested previously, check with www.dr1.com.

You could also fly COPA airlines. They make a stopover between San Juan and Panama. They're cheap, but I don't think they fly every day.
