Grenada would also be a good island to look into as it has what you are looking for. It's not a very touristy island like others, though more so than Bequia because it is slightly easier to get to than Bequia. Air Jamaica flies direct from JFK certain days of the week. Are you looking for a place right on the beach, or are you open to a villa not on the beach but close to one?
we are open .. walking or exploring are fine .. thank you for the tip on Grenada we will look into it. is Air Jamaica for Bequia or Grenada?
Air Jamaica is for Grenada. In order to get to Bequia, you have to fly to either Grenada or Barbados, then take a LIAT inter-island flight to St. Vincent, then hop a ferry to Bequia. There may be other combination of flights, but either way, you'll have to take an inter-island flight to St. Vincent then ferry to Bequia.
I would have suggested LAE Cottages for a basic but clean apartment or cottage, but it looks like they are booked for Christmas thru New Year's. You might want to look into the Calabash or Maca Bana Villas and see if they have availability. Dr. Grooms Resort might be an alternative to look into for a more moderate budget. Off the beaten path is La Sagesse.
A good website for rental villas is: http://spiceislevillas.com/index.htm
You might have a tough time finding accommodations in the Christmas - New Year timeframe as that is high season and the regulars tend to book a year ahead.
Good luck with your search.
