Transfer from Kingston to Negril

We are looking into arranging a weekend trip to Jamaica and have noticed that from Atlanta it is a lot cheaper to fly into Kingston rather than Montego Bay. Our ultimate destination, however, is Negril and we;re not sure if it's possible (or possible to do easily) to transfer from Kingston to Negril.

Any advice or suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks.

It's probably possible, but you're talking about an hours-long drive as opposed to just an hour from MoBay airport. I would strongly discourage you. Not to mention the cost of the transfer might very well exceed the savings in the ticket price. I think it's possible to get to Negril along the south coast of Jamaica, but boy would it ever be a long and bumpy drive.

I've never done that route before, so I'd be more comfortable hearing from someone perhaps who's visited Jake's or the Sandals Whitehouse resort and gone to Negril from there. That would give you a better idea.

I agree with Doug. It's about a 3-4 hour drive from Kingston to Negril, and the transfer cost would probably negate the savings from your airfare. Also that's a big chunk of time for a short weekend trip.

On another subject, not to quibble too much w/ Doug, but the trip from Mobay to Negril is more like an hour and a half. Can even be a little longer if you're traveling on a market day or just after school gets out in Lucea ( small town along the way). For the four of us in a van, the charge has been about $30 per person plus tip.

Thanks for the replies. Seems like you're in agreement: Montego Bay is the way to go. We thought that was the answer but hoped it wasn't. Thanks again!
