Tours in Barbados - May 2008

My boyfriend and I are planning a last minute trip to Barbados May 15th for 4 nights and staying at the Bouganvillea. We would like to take a tour of the island and need some recommendations. http://www.barbados.org/ lists several tour companies including: Blue Trident, Desination Mngmnt, Scenic Barbados, St. James Travel, Boyce, AsUWish and Johnson's. We'd like to see a little bit of everything - history, beaches, places of interest, etc. I thougth at first a sunset sail tour but ... now I'm not sure. So much to see and so little time!

Ted's Tours for a general tour of the island. Best tour I've ever done!

For a sunset cruise, we like Cool Runnings.

You should get Lois Swanson's list of Barbados recommendations, they are really helpful -- she is a real experts -- you can ask her to send you a copy by email at [email protected] -- she llists several great tour operators and guides.

I would second Cool Runnings for a day sail - you won't regret it. What about Island Safari for an island tour with a difference? A bit of adventure, some history, some sightseeing, lunch and refreshments. As you say, so much to do/see, so little time.
You might find www.destinationcaribbean.net helpful as they've got loads of tours and things to do listed.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I have some homework to do now. I'll sign on when we return and share my thoughts with others, as each of you has so generously done.

I wrote to Lois Swanson at this address: [email protected] .
We took the Island Safari tour, which was a lot of fun, but it doesn't go to the the regular tourist spots, like Harrison's Cave, Orchid World, etc. We hired a taxi for one day to take us to those spots, plus just a general island tour ($30/hr USD). We also stayed at the Bougainvillea (Apr. 12-19), and hired Wayne who is a regular taxi driver there. His phone number is 246-233-0108. We also went on the Silver Moon catamaran snorkeling trip--only 12 people on the boat. Wonderful! We loved Barbados. Have fun!

I agree, you can never have enough time to spend in paradise. I have a great suggestion for you regarding a tour of the island. Use a taxi driver as your tourguide for the duration, the best one is Victor Collymore, his mobile is 246-244-5466, E-mail is [email protected]. His prices are competitive and tours are individualized to the customers tastes. His are unique in that he takes you to a lunch stop that is a typical Bajan restaurant, not the usual tourist stop that all the bus tours go. Also, he will take you to any place on the island for dinner, then wait to take you back to the hotel. His taxi is usually near Turtle Beach hotel, which is quite near to Bouganvillea. The hotel may have taxis already on site, but if you want someone reliable, and friendly, use Victor instead.
