I chose STL b/c of it's remote feel, the fact that it's far from the spring break population and it's lush tropical setting. I wanted the "atypical" this time if you can appreciate that. Our last vacation in Cayman was "busy" doing the tourism circuit sites so I'm lkg for more lounging this time. We chose a villa last night in Cap Estate area. As far as activities, I plan on a boat trip down to Pitons and maybe a walking tour in the rainforest. Other than that just beach, snorkeling and occasional strolls through Castries. The goal is to be with family and just relax. I believe I will be flying into SLU, not minding the connection in San Juan.
Other family will be flying into UVF from JFK and will have to transfer one way or the other up to Cap. Do you have any suggestions for transportation?

Based on your other posts, the area you chose seems best for you. Which villa did you choose? The Rodney Bay area is going to have more of what you are looking for in terms of restaurants etc. Castries is good for shopping, but I'm not sure about strolling around at night. It is a port city. The Castries Market is fun for a couple of hours. As for taxis/transfers, check out these websites. philliptoursstlucia.com, fabiantoursstlucia.com and monrosetaxi.com They all get good reviews. I'm sure they would do transfers as well. I would recommend doing your own customized taxi tour of the island for the day, or a land AND sea. You will get to see a lot more of the island. Have a nice vacation. St Lucia is a beautiful island.

We Chose Zandoli Villa, Good reviews, pricey, but splitting it eight ways makes it affordable. I can't wait to go. Thank you for the transport sites, I have to budget a lot for that it seems.

I am flying with a group of ten, the majority of which hate to fly ANY plane, that said, we are flying only Jet service into UVF. We are hiring Fabiantourservices to drive us the 1.5 hrs to Cap Estate for 150.00 USD, split eight ways is not bad at all. I think we are going to have only one rental vehicle so that we can make store runs on occasion, other than that, we will take Fabiantours to show us around the island two or three of our seven days there.

Glad that worked out for you! The must do thing on St Lucia is making it to the southern part of the island to see the Piton's and all of the amazing scenery. If any of your group are particularly prone to car sickness, they may want to take something. It didn't bother us in the least. Couple more things, if any of your group are a little adventureous, the ATV excursion was a blast and beautiful scenery. I had never drove one before and did fine except for getting stuck in mud in a mangrove. (Either that or gently hit a tree) We drove the on the beach and up and down hills. Also, if you decide on a night out for a nice dinner, highly recommend The Coal Pot in Castries. Others that get consistently good reviews are the Greathouse and Charthouse. I'll be interested to hear your report on return as I would be interested in the Rodney Bay area if we were to return. Gosh... one more thing... have heard great things about the Anse La Raye Fish Fry Friday nights.

Tonight I booked the Brig Unicorn Tall Ship that leaves Vigie Peninsula and sails to Pitons. It stops there, has a van pick you up and drive you to the Volcano and takes you to the waterfalls. Then you go back to the ship for lunch. It stops at snorkeling and swimming sites in several bays and also has live reggae music, dance lessons and rum free flowing. We opted the pirate theme tour to make it a little more interesting.
I saw the ATV thing, I'm getting more daring as I age, so very well may do it.
Thank you for the restaurant tips, my family and I are food snobs yet appreciate "hole-in-the-wall" fish fry types too. The trip is not until Feb but I wish it were tomorrow!!! Let me know if you recall anything else. J
