My husband and I are staying at Nisbet Plantation in two weeks. The stay includes a MAP food plan. I am curious about how tipping is handled. Any help would be appreciated. Also, are there any other items that would be useful for us to know about our trip? Thanks...<BR>

We stayed at Nisbet Plantation in the summer of 2000. In Europe tipping is not customary, so we did so only at the end (left a tip in the room). In spite of this, the service in this hotel (both housekeeping and at the restaurant) was the friendliest, most thoughtful we have ever experienced. I am sure tipping will be appreciated, we just never thought of it. I just read some useful information about tipping on the Caribbean-on-line Anguilla forum (at http://www.caribbean-on-line.com/ag/agforum.shtml), perhaps this may be of help to you. Have a great time - we did!

Have not been at Nisbet, but I read post Sally is referring too! I am always confused about tipping maids etc.<BR>i have only recently started to do so. I must admit when you pay over $800.000 a nightor more it is a bit diconserting!! I really feel we Americans tend to tip everyone! It makes me feel uncomfortable. I have seen people slip money to maitre'd at LUNCH!! Tip the suset cruise guys! Tip the golf pick up-no way! It can be confusing!!!!

Thanks Sally, I'll check out the web site. I guess my confusion comes from the fact that the meals are included in the cost. So do you tip at every meal or after your stay? We have traveled around the world and somehow never stayed at a place where the meals were part of your plan. Just wanted a heads up.<BR>Thanks again and I'm pleased to hear you had a nice trip there. We are really looking forward to our trip. Much needed R & R.

Martha:<BR><BR>I just came back from an inn similar to yours. Your MAP food plan will no doubt have a service charge tacked on to it (usually around 10 per cent). At Nisbet, you can choose to leave an additional gratuity at the end of your stay. If you are on a meal plan, part of the convenience is not having to handle money all the time.

Why not just ask the reservations or check-in clerk?

The 10% service charge, which can really add up, is supposed to eliminate the tipping issue. When we stay at places with service charges, we only tip for exemplary service or if the same person performed a service for us all week (like the beach attendant who sets up chairs and umbrellas, brings towels, etc.).For most Caribbean islands and much of Europe, 10% is the standard tip, not 15 or 20%.
