This will be my fifth trip to St. Bart's and I have yet to try the ferry.
I've heard the horror stories but I'm wondering if ANYONE who's had a good experience can tell me how long the ride takes from Oyster Bay (Dutch side) of Sint Maarteen.
By the way, can it suck much more than the plane ride?

I seem to recall the ride was about 30 minutes, maybe 45 minutes and it was a bit choppy and bouncy but what do you expect. There were a few ill passengers aboard. Lots of spray but the ferry has lots of space to just hideaway and stay dry. It isn't a bad ride and worth the trip if you want to get a glimpse of St. Bart's,don't forget to bring plenty of money! Ugh.
Never taken the ferry from Oyster Bay, but have gone a couple of times from Philipsburg - the comfort level varies with the weather conditions. Once quite pleasant, once a little rough, but tolerable. Others have had worse luck. As for the plane ride, it is 10 minutes and nowhere near as "exciting" as some would have you believe. I rather enjoy it.
