The Club Barbados AI resort & Spa

My husband bid on a charity auction package earlier this year and we won a 7-nights stay at The Club Barbados AI resort & spa in St. James area. Neither of us have been to Barbados prior and are looking forward to the trip!

We will be traveling in March 2016 and will be bringing my FIL and his wife as the package was good for up to 2 guest rooms. I saw on the web that there were renovations being done at this AI resort and was wondering if anyone has been recently and how far on they are with completing the project. Would like to avoid any unpleasant surprises if possible! The rep I spoke to today could not tell me whether the reno has been completed or when it is expected to be completed. She also could not guarantee that we would have rooms that have already been renovated.

The package includes Garden/Pool view rooms. Not sure if the noise level from the pool would be a problem and whether an room upgrade would be worth it.

Also, any tips on flights? Seems many that I've seen are overnight which will not work for us. We will be flying from the NYC area.

Any insight or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance...

Hi norahe,

Sorry I cannot help with the hotel question.

JetBlue offers non-stop service to Barbados from JFK. I just did some random March dates and the flight leaves at 9am arrives Barbados at 2:50pm. The return to JFK departs at 2:30 pm and arrives 7:44pm.

I've stayed twice at this hotel when it was an Almond property. It's a great location, the hotel itself was about a 3 star I would say. Now it has renovations it might be slightly higher. It does not really have a beach of it's own, but if you turn left out of the hotel you are steps away from the beach at Sandy Lane which is beautiful. I don't remember noise from the pool that would affect you in the evenings. It is adults only. For the money we paid we enjoyed it, the island itself is great with lots to see and do. Beaches are beautiful. There weren't many Americans staying in this hotel, it was mostly Europeans so there wasn't 24/7 room service etc.

I've visited the property it is very nice, right on the beach. They are still doing renovations to the property however it wasn't noisy and they re assured that they make sure that guests experience little to no disturbance.

The location is great and the beach is at your door step along with all the amenities gourmet restaurants , shopping , banking , supermarkets just a skip across the road.

It is definitely worth ensuring that the rooms you stay in are furthest away from those being renovated .

Hope this is of some help.

We were in Barbados last year. It is a lovely island. I would recommend a trip into Bridgetown. The hotel will have a tour there on certain days I am sure. It is nice for shopping. Everyone goes to Olstein's Fish fry on Friday nights it is the thing to do--go as early as you can. The place is mobbed packed and seating is at a premium.

I would highly suggest a tour of the island which you can book at your hotel through the concierge. Congrats on winning such a great vacation.

Thanks for the feedback!
Bette - we have actually booked this direct flight from JFK which will get us in at a reasonable time.

We will be taking my in-laws with us on this trip as they spent their honeymoon there and trip falls close to my FIL's bday. Will post post trip comments when we get back!
