It seems like taxi service to Rio Grande and then to get to the ferry terminal for Vieques and after that, a taxi back to Carolina before we fly out, is getting expensive! I'm learning cabs aren't cheap. It appears, renting a car and keeping it at the ferry terminal while we're in Vieques, is still more economical at $190 for a week? Does anyone have an opinion? The taxi alone to Rio Grande is over 100 and that's one way before the other stops. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

I rented a car (from Hertz) and left it in Fajardo for a week (free parking at the marina where we sailed from) -- far more reasonable than taxi or shuttle, especially since we had multiple stops. It was also convenient because it allowed us to hang out in Old San Juan before flying out.
i would agree. i rented a car from enterprise because we had multiple areas on the island we wanted to see. i left the car at a paid lot with an attendent before taking the ferry over to vieques. the area around the ferry is shady. it is better to pay a little for parking so someone can watch it.
We rented from National last week and the car and service were excellent. Our total for the week was $211.
