My husband and I are flying into Nassau (from Washington D.C.) on 12/25 for a 5-day vacation. What would be the best way to get to the Exumas for a day or two? We are hoping to see some swimming pigs at Staniel Cay.

The ferries take several hours so those are not an option. We are looking at Flamingoairbah.com and it'll be ~$450.00 for two adults roundtrip from Nassau to Staniel Cay and back. Are there any other options? We are open to booking a charter flight with other travelers if that would be cheaper.

All options are that expensive. Still takes 2 plus hours to get there

5 days in Nassau is not much time, you might want to return and stay at Staniel Cay, each room comes with skiff to explore, not just swimming pigs, but tame sharks, iguanas, thunderball Grhotto cave, tons of uninhabited islands, seriously turquoise beaches, plane wrecks, celebrity islands, and best of all gorgeous sand bar islands.

Seeing the pigs and back is really a tease, and worth a separate complete vacation!

Thank you for your input! It confirms my thoughts that we will have to make a separate trip entirely for Staniel Cay. I can always use an excuse for another vacation. Thank you

iamazingrace, you are making the right decision. Don't get me wrong -- the swimming pigs are very entertaining. BUT, it's only a few minutes of entertainment at best, and the way things have gotten, there could be other excursion boats around vying for the same attraction. You're there only to watch them; you're probably not going to want to go swimming with them (they are HUGE beasts, and they aren't interested in playing with you; they only want to be fed). I wouldn't want to go on their beach, either, when there are plenty of other beautiful beaches around that don't have large pigs running around, doing piggy things (including pooping).

It's a long way to go, and a lot of trouble and expense, for such a short diversion. As Blamona writes, there's plenty more to occupy you in the Exumas, and they are definitely worth a longer visit rather than being an expensive and time-consuming side show.
