Suggestions for ways to find CHEAP packages to somewhere warm!

My best friend is having boy troubles, and I'd love to get her out of town for a couple days. Unfortunately, due to schedules, the only time we could go would be the week of March 28 - which also happens to be spring break for many. We'd like to go somewhere warm and sunny, preferably Caribbean where our primary activities would be lounging on the beach, possibly some snorkeling/diving, and going out at night.

I've checked AppleVacations and the best deal I could find was $500 from Norfolk, VA to Cancun (not all inclusive). We'd really like to keep it under $500 total - including meals for 2-3 nights.

Is $500 completely unreasonable? If not - what suggestions do you have for finding or creating a package in this budget?

Thanks!

I'm not sure if your price is completely unreasoable but I do believe it's low for meals included. You may want to try Priceline vacations or Site59(only last minute). Let us know how you make out. One other thing, look at Orbitz. In the past, I have not found them to be competitive in pricing but recently I've seen some good deals. In my experience, Puerto Rico and Cancun seem to have the best low priced packages for what you are looking for. Threehearts

In addition to Cancun I would check out Punta Cana area. They also have many all inclusive packages for 3 nights 4 days. (Dominican Republic.) You more than likely would be confined to the resort. Going "out" at night would not be an option. I would think that would be the cheapest and AI.

I think you could work that budget at almost anytime of the year except Easter and Christmas. That is going to be a tough one, but you should look at prices for Montego Bay too. Doctors Cave beach is nice for a few days and there are a couple of smaller hotels near there. Some of the cheapest packages I have seen are on www.vacmart.com I have never used them - I would call them and several others that you see on www.travelzoo.com

I'd look at Freeport, Bahamas, which should be a short flight for you and there are some good package deals available there.

Also try the www.libertytravel.com site for packages that they have availalble. That will give you a better idea of what is out there.

Good luck.

Sounds like a Vegas trip is in order.I love the Caribbean but for the price you want....its gonna be tough.Vegas is fun,esp for one with boy troubles, and the pools are fabulous.Nothing like a trip to "the veags" to get your mind right....lol

Well, count me among those folk who think that $500 pp for airfare, hotel, food & activities for 2-3 nights from Norfolk is a bit of a stretch. Try looking at www.cheapcaribbean.com for land & air packages you can buy, or at www.skyauction.com for last minute travel auction packages.

I'm not trying to be querulous, but is it possible to go diving if you have to fly to your destination and you only have 2 nights there?

Good luck finding a place--it sounds like your friend could use some R&R right now.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've checked them all out, and it's looking like it might not work. The timing after Easter and leaving from Norfolk (rather than a larger airport) seem to be the problems...I'll look into Vegas, but I'm thinking we might just have to take off for a couple quiet nights in the Outer Banks...

Can you try for southern Florida. You may get flights and a reasonable beach accomodation in your price range. Meals would certainly be less expensive than the Caribbean. Don't give up yet! Threehearts
