My husband and I are taking a vacation in St. Barts, Nov. 5 to Nov. 12, with 3 other couples (ages range from 52 to 64). We are staying in a villa near Petit Cul de Sac. All are experienced travelers, and 2 of the couples have been expats in many different countries for over 20 years. However this will be the first time in St. Barts for 6 of us (my husband and I sailed there 10 years ago for a brief visit.) We like to snorkle a lot!, and we are renting cars so we can explore the island. One of us has some mobility problems, though. We will appreciate any suggestions from experienced "St. Barts hands" for good places to eat, easy access beaches, interesting places to shop and whatever other advice you may have. Thanks a lot!!

Go to www.sbhonline.com for a forum devoted entirely to St. Barts. There really aren't any snorkling spots (but you can take a boat out to spots, good if you can handle a rocky ride). No worries, you will be too busy eating, drinking, taking in the beautiful sights and lounging on the most amazing beaches ever. Cars are a must. Your villa is in a nice spot (there are no bad spots on the island). Saline beach is my favorite but do pop down to Lorient for a swim on the locals beach. The SBH website will give more up to date info. Enjoy!!
To cover all your bases one day, take a trip into St Jean. We loved that beach and typically stay there. You can access the beach between Eden Rock & Nikki Beach to a calm water bay with lots of boats moored. Here we snorkled, though I do very little on this island, and saw quite a few sea turtles along with the usual fish enough to make it interesting. On this fine white sand beach, you are still only a few steps to great shopping and eating on the beach or in the town. We liked La Plage right on the beach at the Tom Beach hotel, eating great food with our feet buried in the soft sand staring out into the blue bay. As was said in the previous reply get a car and travel the entire island, driving on St Barts will be a memorable experience in itself. Everything is beautiful, make sure you spend at least a day shopping in Gustavia,it's like the most fabulous island outlet mall in the world
