Stop Over in St Maarten

We will be staying in St Maarten for two nights in between a stay in Anguilla.

I am not familiar with this island, as I hear there are two sides , dutch and french.

We will be flying to San Juan so would like to be within 30-40 minute drive to airport.

Could anyone suggest beachside accomodations , 3-4 star?

Thanks

A very nice hotel in St. Maarten (Dutch side) right next to the airport in Mary's Boon. Nice rooms, recently renovated, and on the beach as well. Very friendly management. If you want to be really close to the airport this seems to be a good place to stay. (I have not stayed there myself but we toured the hotel at one time and I have read nothing but good things about it on the Internet.)

I have also heard good things about Mary's Boon, but bear in mind that it is directly next to the airport runway. Don't know how noisy it might be.

Personally, I prefer the French side over the Dutch side. On the French side, you would still be within your time frame to the airport. The Grand Case area is nice, as well as many others. It all depends on your interests and what you plan to do during your stay.

What about La Samana, isn't that 3-4 star on the beach? Very secluded but not more than 30 mins from airport. We have stayed at Maho Reef, which is very nice, but the beach wasn't anything to write home about. Maho is very close to the airport, but in our room we couldn't hear the planes.

If you aren't finding many answers on this site, check out www.caribbean-on-line.com

Good luck and have a great vacation.

LaSamanna is the best full service resort on St. Martin (either side), but for the price, you can get much better accommodations, service and food on other islands.
