st.barts: any oprion for august trip

we are desperately trying to plan our august honeymoon - and have gotten too many suggestions from our travel agent. she suggested St.Barts. Please let me know if you have been there! we are planning 8-10 days, are in our mid 30s, enjoy relaxing beach with moderate activity...night life is not a huge factor for us.<BR>we are afraid this particular island will be too "frenc/european" for us laid back new yorkers!

My husband and I went in October and the island was definitely the nicest we have been to. Excellent restaurants and I agree with [email protected] - Ilse de France Hotel in Flamands is BEAUTIFUL. That beach was definitely the nicest we were on. The one thing we didn't like was that there really wasn't a lot to do except lie around and eat and drink. If that is what you want it is perfect. Regarding the French/Euro thing - almost everyone speaks English and they are very nice to Americans. You will probably see movie stars and models while there. Tyra Banks was on our 8 seater plane! Although being from NY you probably are used to that! If you want recommendations on hotels, etc. feel free to email me at [email protected]

Believe me DTOUR is not an example of the people who vacation in St. Barth. Most have class and they don't behave as "ugly Americans". And yes, one could say that some may appear a little stuck up but wouldn't you rather have that than....

Lori - go for it! It is a magical island. Lunch and dinner are big events on the island - there are no fast food restaurants or chains so be prepared to wine and dine yourselves silly. Night light is quiet but you can definately find some action in Gustavia if you want to. Rent a car so you can check out the entire island - taxi's are not readily available. Good luck.

My husband and I went to St. Barth's last August for our honeymoon. It was amazing! We were looking for the same things you are--relaxing, moderate night activity, etc. and it was perfect. The beaches are beautiful! The service is outstanding--everyone is so nice, and we would go back just for the food! You will not be disappointed!

Go! The people are friendly, the beaches are great, there are loads of excellent restaurants, Gustavia is one of the most picturesque Carib towns you'll find anywhere...it's a lovely island and a super place for a honeymoon or an anniversary.
