Stan Case - Curacao Question

Jump to last reply

I've read many of your posts regarding Curacao and wanted to see if I could get some specific input from you.

We are AI people, and was looking at Breezes, but after going to many AI's we're tired of the large hotels with tons of rude, self centered people. We like the food well enough, and DH likes that there is plenty of it and he didn't have to go far to get it. Our second choice is Lion's Dive. We like the location and the smallness of it. We are looking at an ocean front cabana, which I was suprised it wasn't going to cost an arm and a leg. Their meal plan for breakfast and dinner for 2 people for 7 days will be $714. That does not include any type of drinks. What info can you give me regarding this hotel?

I cannot spend $100+ on dinners every evening for 7 days and still have to pay for breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks. So if you advise against the meal plan at Lion's Dive or the Lion's Dive hotel entirely, can you give options for dining that is 1.) reasonable without being fast food. 2.) close to the hotel you recommend. We will not rent a car. DH will not drive in areas he is unfamiliar with. Also, we are not inclined to cook or fix any type of food/meals in a hotel/condo. Hence the reason why we like AI so much. We've been to various Islands. It's not going to happen.

I have a pretty full iteniary for activites and things to see and do, but I need a specific recommendation to celebrate my 40th birthday. I'm looking for a beach or water front romantic restuarant and then some type of activity afterward like dancing, a lively bar or something just plain fun. I was disappointed they don't offer a bar hopping tour like in Aruba.

Any input you can provide if greatly appreacited. Thanks

Probably the Observatatory restaurant will fit the bill but it is $130-$150 withntip for a 3-4 course meal but quite good. Call the day you get there and make the reservation and tell them you want a window table since it is your husbands surprise 40th birthday dinner.Call the afternoon of your dinner and confirm the seating arrangements and get persons name.I must admit I know 8-9 hotels but not the Lion's Den so I cannot suggest places to dine. There are places that a 2-3 course meal with a glass of wine can be had for $60-$75 but that was our last visit in April '06.See the curacao thread for other ideas. Taxi's will cost you probably $250 for 7 days if you really take advantage and explore and go snorkeling to the WEST END. I can tell you most of the driving is easy if you get 2 quality maps recommmended by the tourist bureau and maybe your husband would rent a Hert car. A standard size, not compact, are not run into the ground, and will cost $225 and you have total flexibility. You can reserve in US and pick it up at the airport and save the the $15-$20 to your hotel as starters. Good Luck. Enjoy.
