St. Lucia or Mustique??????

I am planning a SURPRISE 5-day getaway for my husband and I in October to celebrate our one year anniversary. I can't decide whether to go to the Cotton House in Mustique or Anse Chastanet or Ladera in St. Lucia. We are both in our early thirties and are active...love diving, hiking, local color, romantic dinners, playing on the beach, etc. Both places sound fabulous, but I'm wondering if Mustique is a bit too sleepy for us. Any advice???? Thanks!

Paula,

Mustique was definitely too quiet for me. Of course, much of what a person experiences can be couche in what one expects.

On Mustique, a person is expecting to watch for the Rich and Famous to brush shoulders with them, I guess. I guess if you want to live vicariously, that might be for you.

We stayed there for a few hours - didn't even choose to stay overnight. Too much for me. Not much for the plebeian - such that I like to think I am.

St Lucia has lots to do and lots of variety to choose from. My only bad experience there was with mites or little nats that seemed to frequent the southern part of the island on/near the water.

Can't speak to Mustique, but St. Lucia was great. We stayed at Ladera and absolutely loved it. Incredibly romantic. The open-air rooms were the best, the views incredible, and the food excellent. The beach and restaurant at Anse Chastanet were good too but we didn't see the rooms (very good snorkeling there). We had none of the gnat problems that Don mentioned in his post. Expect some rain in October though. We had a little (in November) but never longer than 10 minutes or so.
