St. Lucia in Hurricane season
I am contemplating going to St.Lucia for a week in mid-july...I am wondering if I am taking a risk with it being hurricane season?
If so, what islands besides aruba are beyond the hurricane belt? I appreciate any suggestions.

I think you would be fine in July, but I am no expert.
I CAN tell you not to go over Labor Day though, since I was ON St Lucia one year and got to experience not 1, not 2, but THREE named storms - one a hurricane - while I was there. Not fun.
Bonaire and Curacao come to mind...

Even though Aruba is said to be 'out of the hurricane belt', it is as vulnerable as anywhere else in the caribbean during hurricane season.
As you probably know from last years horrific hurricane season, no one can predict where or when hurricanes will strike. The season is from June 1-December 1st however hurricanes, tropical storms, and tropical depressions do occur outside those dates. Aruba has been effected by these storms in the past and will be again in the future.
Hurricanes or Typhoons hit the east coast of the US, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, West Coast, and the Pacific Rim including Asia.
I would not base my holiday plans on weather that may or may not happen. Instead, I would purchase very good travel insurance in case something does happen, you can cancel without penalty.

I would not be that worried about the islands during July. Even though it's hurricane season, the named storms typically arrive towards the end of August-November. I live in S. Florida and have been down to the Caribbean in the summer months several times. Certainly buy insurance for the trip if at all possible, and watch the weather report for hurricane warnings the week of just in case. Also, keep in mind that the forecast on weather.com usually gives a very bleak outlook for the islands during the "rainy" season. We were in St. Lucia in October for our honeymoon, and the forecast called for an 80% chance of thunderstorms each day for a full week. We almost cancelled the trip. Over a 7 day period, it rained everyday for 30 minutes, and it was beautiful 90% of the time. That time of year is a risk anywhere tropical (Mexico, Latin America etc.)
