My husband and I went to Antigua for our honeymoon and absolutely fell in love with the island and the people. I have started saving for a two-year anniversay trip, and am actually thinking of trying St. Kitts instead. We want all-inclusive and don't need a 5-star resort. In Antigua we stayed at the Jolly Beach Resort and really liked it. Would the St. Kitts Marriott compare for us? Thanks in advance, Rachel

My husband and I just got back from our honeymoon in St. Kitts. We stayed at the Marriott for 4 nights and Ottley's plantation inn for 3 nights. We didn't do the AI option b/c we wanted to explore other places on the island to eat. There were others there doing the AI and we did hear some complaints, b/c there are only certain things included, like the cheaper restaurants and local beers, not open bar. So I'd check the details out before committing. Ottley's was amazing, very romantic. We did have a meal plan there, breakfast and dinner included. The food is amazing...4 course meals at dinner! I'd check into that if you're looking for a romantic getaway! Hope you have fun wherever you decide to go!
I've been to both islands several times but have not stayed at either resort (I have visited the St. Kitts Marriott). If I'm not mistaken the Marriott offers a Meal Plan but it is not AI (you have to pay for drinks) and like Merbear2 says not everything on the menue is included. IMHO you are better off not taking the Meal Plan as there are quite a number of very good restaurants (in all price ranges) on the island and it would be ashamed if you limited youself to eating only at the Marriott. Many people have a misconception that AI's will save on food costs but in reality you can often dine for the same or less by not going AI.
The Marriott is a huge resort and many of my friends on the island tell me it is still experiencing inconsistancies in levels of service. It is. nonetheless a very attractive resort. It is located on the Atlantic side of the island and there have been reports that the water can sometimes be a little rough. To be fair, there is a breakwater about a hundred yards off shore which helps reduce the wave action.
St. Kitts is a very different island from Antigua. It is much more laid back and has a more old world Caribbean feel to it than Antigua. St. Kitts beaches, while nice in their own right, do not compare either in number or in natural beauty as the ones on Antigua. The locals, however, are friendlier and the island has much more natural beauty than Antigua.
I stayed at Sandals Antigua for my honeymoon; I know the Sandals resorts aren't very popular on this board, but I did have a great time and thought the restaurants were excellent.
