St. Kitts restaurants & hotel
We are thinking of staying a couple of nights in St. Kitts at the Marriott the first week of October. Any comments on the resort? If we do this, I would like to book in a few days.
Also, for 2 nice evening meals, what restaurants would you suggest.
Many thanks.

The Marriott is a great resort. Yes, it is big, yes, it does stick out on the island but the room quality and amenities are very good.
I recommend Ottley's for a really nice special meal and Stonewalls for a more casual but fun meal.

Actually we may fly over from Barbados for the 2 nights and wondering if it would be worthwhile.
Has anyone been to Barbados and St. Kitts. I imagine that St. Kitts is much like Barbados was over 20 years ago with goats, etc. wandering freely.
We actually are looking for someplace with beauty that doesn't have all of the traffic congestion that Barbados does but still offers nice hotels/villas and excellent food.

Lois, if you are looking for something quiet and beautiful, St. Kitts is the place, but I don't think the Marriott is the best choice, in my opinion only, of course. It seems so out of place on this island with no glitz. We stayed across the road on the Caribbean side of the island at Timothy Beach Resort. Not the plush accomodations of the Marriott, but definitely more island-like and on a great beach.
We did not venture too far because we did not have a car, but we enjoyed the beach restaurant down from TBR (name escapes me completely at the moment). I'm sure there are others with better dining ideas than I have.
I just remember thinking how odd it seemed to have this big hotel with a casino on an island like St. Kitts. Of course, it's just for tourists because the population of St. Kitts is not wealthy, it seems, but it just didn't seem very suited to the island. Just my opinion.
You will love the island though. We plan to return soon.

Taxis on St. Kitts can get pretty pricey. I'd say a one-way fare from Marriott to Ottley's would be between $10 and $12US without tip. If you are going to spend any appreciable time exploring the island consider renting a car (about $35 to $40US/per day). Two R/T trips in a cab to just about anywhere on the island will cost you about the same as a daily car rental.

You might consider hiring a taxi for a round the island tour. Start in the morning and time it so you are at Ottley's for lunch. You will have the taxi for a certain amount of time, and the time spent over lunch won't add as much as a round-trip fare from the Marriott.

For a two nice evening meals I'd recommend Marshalls or Ottley's Plantation.
There's a new restaurant in Fortlands called Serendipity I've heard is good.
