St. Kitts or Nevis and where to stay?

My husband and I are trying to decide between St. Kitts and Nevis for our next vacation spot and are looking for suggestions of which island to chose and where to stay. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

It really depends on what you are looking for in a vacation spot. Both islands are pretty laid back, Nevis more so than Kitts.

We've been to Kitts for two vacation. We stayed both times at the Fairview Inn, which is definitly not for everyone, fairly cheap on the west end of the island (five miles past Basseterre). Most visitors stay on the southend - Sun n Sand, Jack Tar (if it's reopened yet, I haven't heard). The southend offers the most snorkeling, beach opportunities, and golf course, etc.

If you stay there it is almost mandatory to rent a car, it is easy to go broke paying for Taxi service outthere - which is why we stay on the other end, for $1.00 bus service.

If youd do go to Kitts be sure to visit the "Spot Net", its about six miles west of Basseterre, Great restauraunt, open-air, perfect for watching the sunset, offers grilled fish (whatever they could catch that day), ribs, and LOBSTER!

I just noticed your email - are you from the Keys? if so we are planning a trip there in the last week of March, and are wondering about the best vantage point for accomodations? I have heard nightmare stories about traffic jams, etc. so don't want to get stranded. There is nothing worse than being stuck in traffic when all you want to do is be in the water!

Right now I've been narrowing our focus to Marathon Key, or thereabouts, do you have any suggestions? Much appreciated!

Sarah: My wife and I just returned from Nevis. Many great places to stay at various prices. We didn't make it to St>Kitts, but friends did not recommend it. Said the beaches were not so great and there was starting to be problems with crime. Who needs that? Give me a call and I'll be glad to tell you about it all. 1-800-585-9896.

Went to St. Kitts 2 years ago & loved it.Stayed at Jack Tar. Food wasn't that
great, but I've heard they have improved
Have access to Atlantic(with bar on beach) and to Carribean. Casino and golf course right there. Left resort only for trip around island and catamarand ride to Nevis. fantastic.

I just returned from St. Kitts-Nevis. I'd say stay on St. Kitts. There's more to do, and it's only a $10EC ferry ride to Nevis. The ferry runs at least once a day each way. I lived there for 6 months. Jack tar Village and Fort Thomas Hotel are still closed from the Hurricane. Both islands are open for business though. If you want to stay in a hotel, I'd recommend Ocean terrace Inn (OTI). It's in a nice area of town, and within walking distance to the ferry terminal, bus station, and grocery store. If you go there, See Niel and Ian at Mango's, and Tell them I sent you. Also Try Sprat Net on Friday or Saturday evening. It's an open air restaraunt in the Village of Old Road. It's a $2.25 bus ride from town. If you want to hike, see Greg Periera.(869)465-4121. He does guided tours to the volcano, and through the rain forests. For scuba diving talk to Kenneth at Kenneth Dive Centre.(869)465-2670 I'd recommend Brimstone Hill Shallows. Brimstone hill Fortress is a must see also. For lunches, find a place called Excelsior. It's cheap and great food. It's on New St. (not New Road) in Downtown (next to the cable office). If you want more info on St. Kitts, email me, or check out http://www.interknowledge.com/stkitts-nevis/
