St John,USVI hotel that was being built while we were there.....

When we were on St John,USVI around 4 years ago they were building a hotel across from the beach on the way up the hill to Gallows Point and Lavendar Hill.
Did they ever finish that hotel? Does anyone know the name of it?
Thanks for any info.

The name is Grande Bay. It's been in a lot of legal trouble over the years...I believe some individual units are finished, but the whole site is still under construction.
While I'm here.... do you know anything about Battery Hill condos? We're trying to find something we can walk to town from and Gallows is booked for our stay.
Thanks!

Thank you for your reply.I know unless you have a car that those hills you have to negotiate around the bend from Gallows Point are really steep and you have to be in shape to get up them. There was one steep hill before we got to the Villa Caribe(there are 5 condos there) where we stayed. It's very nice and quiet and private. Here's the link to the condo we stayed at:

And then we went up another hill from the condo and stayed here:

We did not rent a car so we walked back and forth to town and wow...those hills were killers.Especially carrying groceries and such.
Anyway both places were wonderful. And to get to Battery Hill you go up another very steep hill.
It's an easy 10 minute walk down to town.
I love St John.Would love to go back one day.

Grande Bay is condos. I hear some of the units are completed and are for rent. Hard to really do STJ right without a jeep. Heading back in two weeks for the 11th straight year.

Have a look at this place. I am looking into this place as a cheaper alternative to Gallow's Point. I'm going to check it out in May when we go. The hill down into town is reportedly fine, but back up a killer. You can catch a taxi cheap to run you up the hill I'm sure.

Also, Grande Bay is renting out some of the units at a very nice price, I would assume because of the on going construction. If you are not in the room much during the day, it might not be a problem. I think most of the very loud stuff is done. I'll see if I can find a link to one of the units.

I have stayed at Coconut Coast Studios. It is past Gallows from town - down the hill and through a short path in the trees. 11 units, clean, pool, laundry. I would stay there again.
