Any suggestions for accomadations around 150.00 per night? Second week in September. We don't need the ritz but do not want the motel 6 either. Help it's our honeymoon! Looking to split 8 days between the two islands. Thanks!

I can give you some suggestions for Tortola -

Long Bay Beach Resort is a popular resort, great beaches and they may be able to give you a deal these days. One of my favorite places to stay on Tortola is Lighthouse Villas - affordable and their top floor rooms are great. You might also want to reach out to Cheryl at the Purple Pinapple (google for web address). She does a lot of villa rentals and might be able to help with something for a few nights. Since September is the slow season (and a lot of restaurants and some hotels are closed) on Tortola, you might get some deals!

There looks to be some deals at Gallows Point and the Westin this year, particularly for hurricane season.

I haven't stayed at Long Bay, but the beaches at the hotel are fabulous.

This time of year there are usually auction on www.skyauction.com for both Fort Recovery Villas and Long Bay Beach Resort on Tortola, either of which would offer you the value you're looking for. I happen to think that Long Bay's location is superior to Ft. Recovery, though.

On Virgin Gorda you should check out Guavaberry Spring Bay cottages, which should be right at your budget limit for that time of year.

I liked Tortola very much and I *loved* Virgin Gorda. Both islands are great.

Try Concordia Estate Eco-tents. Trust me, this is not like camping at all. The canvas for the tents is stretched over a wooden frame, and is very roomy. Our "tent" slept four people (2 of them kids), had a small balcony with an awesome view of both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean side, had a gas stove, and even a separate little bathroom, complete with solar heated shower. Hands down Gallow's Point. I didn't mention it because of the rate not being in your price range. But, they have a fantastic special going on for the time you are there.

Gallow's Point is a group of condos run like a hotel and we have stayed there a number of times and love it. Wonderful views, great staff, on-site store, etc. It is a comfortable walk into town which is true of only a few places on STJ yet it is still quiet. They will pick you up at the ferry dock and back when it is time to leave. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Some of the units are slightly dated but GP has other qualities more than make up for it.

Thanks brenandg! I saw the promotion for an extra 30% off. It's still a little higher than we wanted to go but looks to be a good bargain. We would need to stay in the Harbor View Lower but think it is still a good choice. Are you familiar with these rooms? Thanks again!

We have only stayed in the upper harbor views so I have not seen any of the lower units. I would try to get one of the units closest to the "point" like 10 or 11 if you can. When we were there in May, they were gutting unit 10A so that one should have a nice facelift. It is also closest to the point that you can get and is close to the pool area. You will get nice views of the sunsets to the left of your porch. The closer you get into the harbor, 12-13-14, the less the ocean view and more harbor view. The units in 14 will be next to the cemetary, but it is not at all creepy. You will walk by it going into town every day.

I just wanted to add that I'm not sure they were entirely "gutting" 10A. It was not occupied and they were replacing the tile. The saw was annoying for a couple of days. We thought it looked to be pretty major renovations.

brenandg....just booked our stay at Gallows point on your reccomendation. It looks wonderful, the person I spoke to on the phone was super nice, and she said "10A" was a great choice and that she would arrange for us to have that unit. Also, I booked four nights at Long Bay Beach Resort on Tortola. It gets mixed reviews so I'm not so sure....however.... the rates quoted online started at 165.-185. per night but when I called the toll free number I was given a rate of 110. a night. WOW! I upgraded to the deluxe hillside for about 138. a night. That extra savings will come in super handy as part of our spending money. Thanks again for all your help, be well!

I think you will really enjoy Gallow's Point. You are going to love the ways the doors open up to the views. Since you are on somewhat of a budget, let me know if you want some good, lower to moderate priced food recommendations. While I have to have lobster in some form at least once, the rest of our dining we try not to get too elaborate with and there are some very good "cheaper" eats.

This place has been getting rave reviews. They have Happy Hour Mon-Fri with $5 small plates and reduced drink prices. It is going to be a must do on our next trip. No view as it is in The Marketplace, but the atmosphere still looks nice.

We love this place. Great lobster rolls and extremely casual. You can go there right from the beach. It is a little out of the way right near Salt Pond, but worth the very pretty drive. They close around dark and are closed Sundays and Mondays. Not sure about there September schedule.

Deli Grotto in Mongoose Junction has great breakfast and lunch sandwiches. If you get hungry for some good old fashioned home cooking, try Shela's Pot right across the street from the ferry dock. Huge portions and delicious. We haven't eaten there lately, but Uncle Joe's BBQ is a favorite for reasonable take out BBQ.

This place has excellent Italian food and while not necessarily cheap, you will have leftovers for another meal or could share app, salad and entree and have more than enough food.

There is also a decent little pizza place called I think Cruz Bay Pizza Shop right in Wharfside Landing across from Joe's Rum Hut. You can get a nice thin crust pie for about $20.

Lot's of people rave about Woody's Seafood Saloon for cheap eats. Our food there has been good but not great.

Be sure to check out St John Spice! It is a wonderful store. I highly recommend the Cruz Bay Grill rub, there signature spice. It is awesome and about $5.

You are a bit limited with restaurant choices due to closings, but you should still be able to find some good food. Skinny Leg's, my absolute favorite place for a burger is closed.
