So, about 22 years ago, my husband and I stopped at St. Bart's on a Norwegian Cruise. It was our absolute highlight (and a break from the smoke-filled ship!) We rented a little motor boat and went around the island. It didn't cost much. We could throw off the little anchor and swim 100 yards off shore, avoiding the naked zoo. It was perfect, except, of course, for the 3 minutes when the engine wouldn't start on the north side and we were being blown into the rocks and had no life vests, water or radio and thought, for the first time in my life, I could really die.
A couple of decades later, we are older and wiser and our NCL days are over and we are going to St. Martin with our 3 kids for a couple weeks this July. We plan to take a day trip to St. Barts. Something tells me the little marina guy won't be there with a little boat with the little anchor for $100. Any suggestions? I love that island but my prude American children will freak at the nudity.
Thanks in advance!

What a shame.
If I remember correctly the French side of Saint Martin is no less hedonistic.
And my preference is St. Barts.
When we were last on St. Barts with our kids, at that time aged 16 and 19, we rented a boat for the afternoon from the marina in Gustavia, probably here- http://yannismarine.com/
We're notoriously cheap so I can't imagine it was terribly expensive.
That said, how do you plan to get to St. Barts?
Thank you. We will take the ferry from Oyster Pond. Yannis was pricey private charters with a crew but I did find links to other vendors with some smaller power boats. Looks like 320 Euro is about the cheapest for a half day. Maybe we will meet another family and can do a whole day. I know some restaurans on St. Martin accept U.S. cash same as Euros - Do you know if vendors on St. Bart's do that too? Thanks again.
I think Yannis did more than the "big" charters, at least then, but you might look here- http://www.sbhonline.com/St-Barts-Activities/St-Barts-Boats.htm
I'm sure we didn't pay close to that and we travelled in July.
I don't believe dollars are acceptable in St. Barts but you can certainly use credit cards.
My daughter (now 23) just mentioned the trip to St. Barts last weekend.
She fondly remembered the many lunches we picked up from Maya-to-go in St. Jean.
