1.) I'm planning to go to Le Toiny for 25th Wedding anniversary. How far in advance would I need to confirm a reservation? Planning to go in Feb/Mar 2003 but can go just about anytime before Sept. in 2003
2.) Whats the best way to get there from Indianapolis? Seems most of the flights from here get me to St. Martin too late to get on to St. Barts the same day.
3.) I am planning on using Internet to book my own air and hotel. Expedia or Orbitz. Anybody have a better site they would recommend?
4.) I'm a novice so any info regarding proper tipping would be apprecitated, i.e., baggage handlers at airports, taxi's etc.
5.) Biggest question for all you St. Barts lovers.....why are you all fanatically in love with this place? I'll admit it looks like a beautiful place but there isn't a place in the Caribbean that evokes more passion!
Thanks in advance for all your help!

Suggest you go on line to Le Toiny's website and ask them. Feb/Mar is high season. It may already be too late. "out of season" starts May 1, then it is much cheaper, less crowded, and more available. (watch out for hurricane season in Sug-Oct).
St Barts is luxury, graciousness, elegance personified. French cuisine and friendly people. They speak English as well. Very safe. Quiet. No distractions like casinos, vendors, etc that you see on other island.
Very romantic. Quiet. Little nighttime entertainment.
You should go with someone you care about a great deal.
Beautiful beaches. You will need a car.
Le Toiny is a great choice. They are consistently the best. We have gone for 6 consecutive years and love it. (going back in Feb 2003.)
Any other questions email me.
The gateway is St Martin (short 10 min hop). No runway lights so no planes after 5pm.
Even if you have to overnight somewhere, it would be worth it. Coming back not a problem since you get off island early enough to connect thru St Martin to multple spots.
If you go in peak season of Jan-Feb, you'd probably be best off to book it now or as soon as you possibly can. For a March booking you might be able to wait a bit. March and April arer easier to book and basically offer the same excellent weather as in winter.
If St. Martin doesn't work, you can look into flights to Miami or to St. Thomas, and connect from there. I really find that taking Winair from St. Martin works best. But there are no flights after dusk, & the latest flight is maybe 4:30 pm or so - you need to check with Winair (or Air Caraibes).
People who go to St-Barth love it because it remains classy, simple and unspoiled. For numerous reasons, it will never attract the US mass tourist trade, and that has saved it from ruin. It also has virtually no native islanders, and those who are there have lots of money - it's an expensive place. Result: virtually no crime.
If you need to be entertained with the usual tourist stuff you will be very unhappy on St-Barth, because....there just isn't ANY. It's you, the sun and the beach, peace, privacy, and great restaurants. If you enjoy your own company, the sun, and some French joie de vivre, there's no place on earth like it!
Ps Great choice with Le Toiny!!!
Haven't been yet but am planning similar for next April/May or Oct/Nov. I had printed a similar post at the end of April that concluded flying from St. Thomas was the preferred mode. I think however, you'll have to go through Miami or Atlanta first. See what you think! Also, there is a package in the "off season" that includes a jeep and other perks. Please post your observations when you return!
