I would recommend Village St. Jean but make sure you get a cottage and not the hotel room. The VSJ is charming, a great bargain for the price and very centrally located.

I would also recommend the Christopher Coralia. They have great package deals in the summer which include a car and a wonderful full American breakfast and they also have one of the larger pools on the island. It's in Pointe Milou which is not as far away as Le Toiny.

I've been looking at Village St. Jean as well. While I keep hearing people say get the cottages, not the hotel rooms, no one every says why. Perhaps it is evident, but I was just curious. In addition, there are two different levels of cottages - standard and deluxe and there are both garden and terrace within each of those categories. Anyone want to provide some insight as to std. vs. deluxe and garden vs. terrace?

Thanks!

We stayed in a hotel room at VSJ a few years back. The hotel rooms have no ocean view and no kitchen. If you're on a strict budget and can't afford anything else the hotel rooms are still a great deal. The cottages are located on the hillside. The more expensive ones have a better ocean view and from the website it looks like they have nicer furnishings along with a kitchen or kitchenette located on the balconey.

If you're that interested you should e-mail Catherine at the VSJ website address with all of your questions as she is very good about returning e-mails promptly.

We stayed in one of the VSJ cottages many many years ago (and are thinking about returning soon). As stated, they are bigger than the hotel rooms and have kitchen facilities, which would help you save money with the kids - even if only for cool drinks. The kitchen was outdoors, which was a first for us. The views were great. The owners are wonderful. We've also stayed in the Emeraude Plage (again many years ago), and while they're more conveniently located for the beach, we preferred the VSJ. Just beware the walk back up the hill from the beach is tough, especially after a long filling French lunch...But now VSJ has a pool also, so that's a nice option with kids too. Highly recommend it!
