How is the south coast of Barbados? I know the West coast has calmer water, and the east is rough, and the south is right in the middle?
I posted on TA but wanted to get your opinion as well. We are planning on staying in the St. Lawrence Gap area but a couple people have told me that the water is too rough for swimming. This concerns me since we are not strong swimmers. We love wading about in the water and taking the occasional swim.
Thanks.

We stayed on the South Coast at Accra Beach Hotel for a few nights before getting on a sailboat and the water was too rough to go in. For the calm, gorgeous, Caribbean water we prefer the West Coast.
The South isnt nearly as rough as the East. The Gap area has several beaches that are relatively calm, for instance check out staying @ the Sapphire Beach Condos
It is a good idea to take it day by day with the beaches on the South Coast around the St. Lawrence Gap area are . For example Dover Beach has plenty of water sport activities of all types , it a festive beach atmosphere in that sense boat rides, jet skiiing etc. For swimming sometimes the water is calm and the ripples gentle and other times it's a bit choppy, but most often times without going too far out from shore and depending on the time of year, swimming or taking a dip may be fine most days. However if you're not not comfortable with what you see the good news is the West Coast isn't far away.
Generally speaking, it depends on the time of year for sea conditions. August, September, October and the sea is lake-like. Now, January, it can be very rough around the entire island. But yes, the south coast is not usually too bad and was beautifully calm yesterday.
We are planning on going in March. How is the water on the south coast in March?
Also, Barbados is pretty small so if we decide to stay in the South I would like to visit one west coast beach. Is there a beast on the west coast that is worth the trip?
