Solo female traveller over xmas time
Hallo, just wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions for a lush chilled beach holiday either in Caribbean or Mexico, Costa Rica.. open to suggestions really.
I'm from UK, will be in Miami and driving down to florida keys... then have 2 weeks - rough dates 2 weeks from 19th December so over xmas and NYE... and not sure what to do with myself.
I'm well travelled (Europe/ Asia/ Australia/ Barbados/ Cuba) & quite sociable, but have usually travelled with friends/ family so am stepping out of my comfort zone doing this alone. I've spent alot of time on Indian and Thai beaches, staying in low-key huts & have also stayed in resorts and package holidays... Im thinking that beach-huts/ guest houses will probably be easier to socialise than package. What do you think? Is there anywhere in the Caribbean that's set up like that? Or is that more of a Mexican beach thang?
Originally was going with a pal to Jamaica but her plans have changed and Im not sure I want the hassle from the men going there alone. So have decided to be open to going to other places. Although would be interested to hear what people suggest about being a single female traveller/ holiday maker in Jamaica. How bad is it? Better to go somewhere else and then maybe going back there with a pal another time? (by the way I do love reggae, have dealt with a little bit of hassle off men previously but have heard it's full-on in Ja).
So, ideally a lush beach, maybe some snorkelling, that maybe attracts more back-packers rather than package holidays. Somewhere it's easy to meet other people (tourists and locals). Ideally English speaking, or easy to get by in English. Throw in abit of culture. Absolutely LOVED Cuba, well Havana, and would defo go back there as would love to see more of the island.. we stayed in Varadero which was abit too packagey for me - as in not much else going on there apart from the string of resorts.. yeah the beach was lush but we got abit stir crazy spending so much time in one place.
Would be up for tours as well... or a week in one place, island hopping to another. Do like exploring new places. (if they're safe). Not into cruises.
Budget? Well I know its peak peak season so going to be expensive - but I do like a good deal.. am thinking of around $2000 Possible?
Or shall I just stay in/ around the keys? I just figured that 3 weeks in/around Miami is abit too much and that I'd take advantage of being sooo close to the caribbean was a good opportunity to explore it. Figured you could get good deals from Miami?
Aruba has come up alot in my searches which is interesting as you don't often hear of this as a destination from UK... also Bahamas, Cayman islands... but am thinking they're very expensive?
Looking forwards to any suggestions and tips.

Maybe I should add that my pal will be in Jamaica ... but staying at her family (not enough room for me) and because she's been there tons will be on a different kind of holiday to me that would like to see some of the sights... if I went there, yes we could meet up for a day or two, but essentially I'd be spending most of the time on my own and Im worried about all the hassle from the men... so have been thinking of other places.

I like Negril Jamaica. I would be comfortable there alone (last trip I was 5 days solo then 5 days w/ friends). Look at www.negrilonestop.com and go to the map where you can click on the hotel names and see the kinds of places available. It's quite rustic and laid back there.
For Mexico look at Riviera Mayan, the Caribbean coastline stretching from Cancun down to Tulum/Akumal. Check out Playa del Carmen and Isla Mujeres.
I vacation in Puerto Vallarta every year solo and love that town. But it's on the Pacific coast so not as convenient to get to from Florida.

Your budget is not realistic for most places in Caribbean during Christmas, Caribbean is overall expensive destination
I have traveled the world solo, much of Caribbean is not lush in the pacific sense-- it's completely different. Most is not a hut on a beach, but resorts
Sounds like you would do good in Roatan-- ticks most boxes, but mostly Spanish- although you will find English at the hotels
Maybe Mexico, especially Tulum area
If you mean $2000 for both weeks, you're out of luck-- you can get Bali and south pacific at those prices, can't get much of anything this side of the world ($2000 for 1 week is pushing limits unless you consider central America)
