Hi Shelley, My husband and I have stayed at Rio de Luna. It is a very big hotel and quite nice. We were there several years ago and at that time Rio de Mares was just being built. They are side by side on a beautiful beach, and while we were there we visited Las Brisas. It is also very big and the beach isn't as nice. If there is anything else you need to know e-mail me.

We recently returned from Cuba where we stayed at the Sol Club Cayo Guillermo. You fly in to Ciego de Avila and the resort is about 1.5 hours north by bus. If you are looking to get away from highrises... you should definitely consider Sol Club Cayo Guillermo. It's quaint (no building higher than two stories), offers all kinds of activities, great entertainment and food, and the people are very friendly. If you're into diving, there is a dive centre on-site. Write me directly if you would like more information.
Hello Kathy,
Which hotel did you prefer - Sol Rio De Mars or De Luna? We have booked an all inclusive at De Mars and have since learnt that the De Luna maybe better - can you shed some light on this for me. We leave on July 16th - so the info. would be appreciated as soon as possible Thanks.
We were at the Rio de Mares for 16 days in April and we felt that this resort was superior to the de Luna. It has bar and washroom facilities on the beach whereas the de Luna does not. The de Mares is a newer facility therefore it is more updated. There is also a disco at the de Mares and not at the other resort. The beach is beautiful with snorkelling on site (bring your own mask. Make sure and book a catamaran with instructor - he's unbelievable. My husband sails but not like this guy. The activity staff is great - make sure and say hi to Wilder. We had 16 days of solid sun, beach, relaxation and no hassles going into town. The mopeds are alot of fun and very reasonable. Enjoy your trip!
I will be staying at the Sol Rio De Mars
leaving the 29th. Aug '99. My daughter is 15 yrs old and I was wondering if there would be anything of interest to her besides the beach. How do you get into town and is it safe? Where is the best shopping. Any info would help.
Thanks !
Message to Silvano:
Have not stayed at De Mares but have stayed at De Luna. Both very nice hotels , I am not sure what a 15 yr old does at either resort except the beach. the trip in to town is either by taxi or by Horse & buggy ( a very nice trip , I might add). Once in Guardalavaca , It seemed to us to be very safe. We had no problems at all. You should have a great time in this area. It is nice and the folks are friendly.
Cheers
Have a great vacation !!!!
We have been to Guardalavaca about 4 times. Hotel Guardalavaca very simple but clean hotel but have to walk across a road to get to the very, small beach. Hotel Sol Rio de Mare is very nice the decor is nicer than sister hotel de Luna and the view far nicer. It is newer than de Luna. De Luna our favourite is older than de Mare so the trees on the oceanview side are tall so if you want oceanview get the top floor. Our friend the beach bartender "Amary" is just an amazing young man, who writes us often. The newest of the hotels is Sol Rio de Oro, beautiful hotel with marble floors with good food and quite a variety. Only problem there is the grounds are huge and lots of walking, no oceanview and quite a walk to the ocean. Last time there no beach bar or restaurant on the beach just a make shift bar but I am sure they are working on one. Only de Oro hotel can access all beach bars on the whole beach. Just this year de Luna and de Mare hotel can eat at either hotel but not at de Oro. Anyone going would be happy to tell more about the place.....swimming with the dolphins etc. Would be happy if you would take some letters for us. We have been to Cuba about 14 times and Holguin is our favourite!!! Adios, Bev & George
