Small Carribean Hotel

Looking for suggestions in the Carribean for honeymoon in September/October/November of 2018. Looking for small resort (<100 rooms), not all inclusive, preferable beachfront, not too busy, mostly adults, great food within walking distance. Swimming, eating, relaxing are goals

Open to any and all suggestions for <6 hour plane trip from Boston, budget under 8K for hotel/plane/food. Have not set a date and understand the issue of hurricane season. Have been to Aruba and liked it but a bit too commercialized.

Thanks!

Look at Le Petit Hotel (and its sister property, L'Esplanade) in Grand Case, St. Martin. While St. Martin can be a busy and commercialized destination in general, Grand Case is like a small Mediterranean village set on a beach. Le Petit has 9 rooms and is beach front; L'Esplanade is hillside and has a pool -- and each offers reciprocal privileges at the other. The main street -- walkable from either property (and last time I was there, they also had a shuttle) -- features probably the largest concentration of great restaurants in the Caribbean.

If you are willing to go really rustic, consider the Out Islands of the Bahamas. Most of the resorts will be closed in September, but there are many choices of tiny little inns scattered throughout the islands, many set on exquisite beaches. The dining will not be "fine dining," but it will be good enough. Some to consider include Fernandez Bay Village (Cat Island), Cape Santa Maria (Long Island), Green Turtle Club (Green Turtle Cay, Abacos), Small Hope Bay Lodge (Andros).

I would also look at Bermuda (technically not in the Caribbean as it is too far north). About a 2 hour flight from Boston.

Sept/Oct is will high season. You will see a dip in price as of Nov 1; the water is still very warm in November but there is shorter daylight and the wind from the north over the Atlantic can be a little chilly. Bermuda can be impacted by a hurricane in Sept / Oct but a direct hit is very rare.

The Reefs would be a wonderful place for a honeymoon.

Look at Fragipani resort on Anguilla or Cap Juluca. Fragipani sits on Meads bay....the water and beach are gorgeous. Small intimate resort with its own fine dining. Other fantastic restaurants (Jacala) as well as seaside lunch restaurants (Blanchards) also within walking distance of Fragipani. Anguilla is itself an intimate island with some of the best beaches in the Caribbean. Cap Juluca is more high end and exclusive. It sits on a cove shaped beach that has been on the cover of many magazines and in my view probably one of the beaches that I would include in my top 3. Not sure you can walk to other restaurants - but renting a car and driving on Anguilla's empty roads is very easy and convenient way to visits the many other unmissable stunning beaches and gourmet restaurnts. As you can tell - I am a big fan of Anguilla. I also agree - that is you are willing to go a bit rustic one of the Bahama out islands would be my other recommendation. Check out Shannas Cove or Fernandez Bay on Cat Island - the beach is both these locations is fantastic. Dining onsite. A bit more high end would be Grand Isle on Grand Exuma.

I'd look at the US Virgin Islands or British Virgin Islands ( BVI ) as you will save on Flights ~ more to spend on Hotels. For a very intimate and luxurious Caribbean Honey Moon Experience that pushes swimming, eating, relaxing in all respects is Peter Island Resort. It is a private Island in the BVI, you get there by Private Hotel Ferry form St Thomas, or Cheaper, Beef Island (airport) which is connected to Tortola. My wife and I have stayed there 3 Times and love it. Amazing almost empty beaches, great snorkeling, free non motorized water sports, great food and the friendliest staff we have come across in our extensive Caribbean Travels. Check out the web site of Peter Island Resort.
If you are a bit more adventurous consider renting a car and Cottage on St John in the USVI. MANY excellent beaches, great restaurants, easy driving and a private cottage can offer an amazing experience. I know you want to be near beach, but in St John i recommend go for a property at higher altitude with great views. Reason is you can be on many beaches all day, but when done no better than the cool breezes and amazing views this Island affords. In the Caribbean when you get to 500-1000 feet elevation you no longer need AC
Enjoy your Honey Moon!!

Like Bette, my first thought was of the Reefs Club in Bermuda. They offer some meals but not all. The hotel is lovely and is mostly an adult only resort. Bermuda is a beautiful island for a honeymoon.
