Simple Caribbean vacation

Hello All -
My husband & I are looking for a new place to visit. We owned a vacation house in Bonaire for 10 years; just sold it in June 2008 and haven't had a vacation since. We want to take a 7-10 day vacation in November or early December. My husband is a diver and I snorkel, however we have done so much that these activities are nice but aren't a priority. We don't need an action-packed adventure. Our desired budget for lodging is around $250/night (or less, of course!). We're curious about Anguilla, Barbados, Cayman, & Dominica, and are open to other suggestions.

What we like:
-Good food, but also wouldn't mind doing our own cooking occasionally
-Interaction w/ local people, culture, cuisine
-Place to stay right on the ocean
-Long, easy walks, especially on the beach
-Sight seeing
-Live music

What we don't like:
-Touristy, party places

Thank you!

Hello, Caribbean Travel & Life magazine just ran an article in the October issue. It looks very lush, non-touristy and full of adventure. Check it out! I just returned from Barbardos in July and there is are plenty of beach front smaller, low key boutique places to stay...We stayed at an AI, only because the deal was so unbelievable. If I were to go today, I would stay at Cobblers Cove or Treasure Beach. Most hotels offer entertainment; the South Coast has all the night life and action. They are both on the West Coast and smaller and quaint. Barbados has much to see on the island, each coast has it's own personality and sites. The food was fabulous and the people were very warm. The island was gorgeous.

I recommend Roatan, Honduras...not very touristy and absolutely beautiful. I can recommend a stunning villa, across from the beach in a gated community that would fit easily in your budget. The food on Roatan is amazing. Lots of fresh seafood. Some of the best snorkelling, if not the BEST in the Carribean. Contact me and I'll send pics. [email protected]

My idea of a perfect island is to be able to plunk myself down at a great pool with a drink in hand. It is also somewhere with a view of the sea, being able to enjoy the history there and the fields of sugar cane.
I found all these things in Barbados. It also has some of the best beaches and some great hotels choices.
