Short T&C trip report

I had the opportunity to visit Turks & Caicos for the second time from Oct 21 - 25 with my friend and T&C expert "Blamona." The purpose of this trip was hurricane damage/bad tenant control! I also tagged along while she reviewed some villas for her book. Thankfully, though, Blamona has a hard fast rule - no work between 11 am and 2 pm as those are prime beach hours In addition to meeting some very nice people on the island, I learned a great deal about island life and owning a property. Here are my humble opinions regarding some of the hotels that I had the pleasure of visiting and enjoying. First is the Somerset - beautiful property, very sophisticated and serene. The tapas at O'Soleil Restaurant are great as is the setting and live music. The Regent Palms is also gorgeous...the entrance way is incredible. The pool area is very chic and I love the color scheme. We also peeked into the spa...to die for. My last trip was spent at RWI, which we really enjoyed but I think next time we may try the Sands. Great beachfront, winding pools, central location, restaurant overlooking the water. Seems like a great spot for families. They also just did some renovations and the lobby area looks great! Rib night at the Tiki Hut was fun. I had a bad experience there last time but this visit the food and service were great. Great value too. We also hit Nikki Beach on Friday night - South Beach atmosphere with beds in the sand and an active bar with dancers. This seems the place to see and be seen. Great people watching. But be warned - drinks are expensive even by T&C standards. Weather was awesome...only slight disappointment was that the sea was pretty rough. These conditions prevented us from taking a day trip to North Caicos as well. Visibility for snorkeling was still subpar due to the hurricane, but the color of the water is still that amazing turquoise blue. I don't think I could ever tire of looking at it. And something new that I learned from the island expert and noticed every day of the trip is the interesting phenomenon of the underside of the clouds appearing to be turquoise in color due to the reflection of the shallow waters of the Caicos Banks. Look for it! We had a very busy, but also productive and fun trip. I can't wait to go back!

As far as photos, Blamona took most of them on this trip as she had a polarized filter and I did not. She has already posted some in her trip report. I may post a few more later.

Sounds like y'all had a great time! So, I've got to ask: were you friends in RL before you met on Fodor's, or did the forums here bring you together?

We actually met through these boards after we realized we lived close to each other and had tons in common. 8-)

I'm considering starting a new business: The Turks and Caicos "Blamona Tour" !
