SFO to NEV

My wife and I are regular travelers to the Caribbean and are headed back to Nevis in November. Traveling from the west coast is always difficult - we've flown red-eyes, stayed overnight in Miami, and flown some ungodly early morning flights out of SFO.

What with the American bankruptcy and other airlines getting into the act, I figure the options are different than the last time we flew out.

I've been looking at some flights, but thought I'd ask the travel experts here in this forum. Any suggestions as to how to get to Nevis the easiest. We will ferry over from St. Kitt's if it makes the flights, layovers, etc. easier!

Thanks in advance,

Dave

you can easily do sfo to san juan on delta or usair. then there is a 6:10pm nstp to nev from sju on cape air.
otherwise it looks like usair/windward through phl.
booking separately will run about an extra $100 over usair thru phl.

For my next trip, I am flying American to SXM, then taking WinAir to NEV (I'll be staying in St. Martin for a few days, so don't have to worry about transfer times). FWIW, WinAir has a code share with USAirways, so you can check luggage all the way through. Getting to SXM is easier than many other Caribbean destinations.

There are many options via St. Kitts -- I think there are nonstops via PHL, JFK, MIA. If you are staying at Nisbet Plantation, they arrange for transfers from Nevis to SKB which make it quite convenient.

I wouldn't worry too much about AA's Bankruptcy - almost every major US airline has at one time or another done the same thing and still survived. AA flies daily non-stop from MIA and twice weekly from JFK into St. Kitts. From there you can take the ferry or water taxi to Nevis.

Other options (not mentioned by the other respondents) are to fly into SJU than take Cape Air or Air Sunshine directly into NEV - note depending on the airline you fly into SJU connection time might require you to overnight in SJU. Also, the SJU/NEV leg is not inexpensive.

Or fly into Antigua on your airline of choice and fly LIAT or Winair to NEV.

We traveled to St. Kitts and took a water taxi to Nevis a few months ago. The only new option I've seen is Air Montserrat. They have Nevis-Antigua-Montserrat flights every day and returning in the evening. I have not looked at any schedules but it may be possible to take AM from Antigua to Nevis.

I don't know how that will fit in with your SFO schedule.

Cape Air was a pretty pricey option from SJU when I checked, so we wound up going through Miami and spending the night on the way home.

Thanks everyone.

It turns out that I have a conference in Orlando that ends on November 13th. I think I'll drive to Miami, meet my wife who will fly in from SFO, stay overnight and then catch the direct flight that RoamsAround mentioned.

Nevis...here we come!

Thats a good idea to take the direct flight over to St. Kitts from Miami then you will be able to take the sea bridge or the regular ferry over to Nevis were you will easily be able to get a taxi or car rental to your designated accommodation. You can book your car rental in advance when you visit www.experiencenevis.com and see upcoming events that are and will be happening during that time when you and you wife are set to visit Nevis.
