Hello everyone! My fiance and I will be tying the knot in September of this year and we are really interested in going to St. John for our honeymoon.
Right now our favorite plan is to rent a villa or cottage and a jeep for the week. This seems to be way cheaper than the Sandals all inclusive that is on the island.
We've also been eying Gallows Point, it looks pretty nice but not quite as private as renting a cottage and probably on the upper end of what we want to spent on accomodations per day.
We'd like to take a ferry to St. Thomas or the British VI or both while we are there as well as snorkel, go to some beaches, eat some great food, and do a little hiking.
Plane tickets right now for us are pricing around $800-$900 and we'd like our honeymoon to be around $5,000. So, that leaves us around $3,000 to $3,500 to use on the island for accomodations, food, and activities. Since there are hundreds of rental properties to look at, I would love some Bay recommendations to target.... or just tell me some of your favorite villas/locations! Any restaurant suggestions, activities, and beaches you highly recommend as well as any St. John/British VI/St Thomas tips you have!
Thanks in advance!

I think you'll love St. John. You will find a lot of villa advice by searching the forums (try "St. John villa"). You should be able to find a great place within your budget since it's low season.
It's also low season because it is the absolute peak of hurricane season. It still means that the odds in a given week are in your favor. But do yourself a favor and get some hurricane insurance for peace of mind.
A day trip to Jost Van Dyke (and the Soggy Dollar beach bar) and some BVI snorkeling is well worth the money.
just an fyi. there is no sandals on st. john, usvi. you may have been looking at the sandals on antigua (the capital of which is the city of st. john's) they are very different islands in both topography & atmosphere.
have not stayed on st. john but think you'll find good villa options. start with vrbo.com
Yes virginia, you're right. I was thinking of Antigua!
No disrespect to Fodors but there is another board that has many discussions and reviews about villas.

New Horizons does a fun power boat excursion that will take you to the baths, a few snorkeling stops, lunch and then white bay, home of the soggy dollar bar. These are in the BVIs so a passport will be needed.
Great choice for a honeymoon!!
