For a little different culture my scuba group(6 to 8 guys 40's to 70's) is intrested in a French Island. The 70+ year old puts the rest of us to shame. We have been to St. Martin. Quality of diving is the first criteria, then a casino and "beach scenery" not necessarily in that order. Other activities are a distant fourth. I've not been able to find much info. on the diving on these two islands other than the tourist board web sites which say it is great. Turks& Caicos had little info but turned out to be very good for example. Inputwill be greatly appreciated.

On the Basse-Terre section of Guadeloupe, Pigeon Island is considered a top diving spot. Basse-Terre is largely a rainforest national park and is gorgeous. There is a good-sized casino on the Grand-Terre section of the island, in Gosier.
We just got back from Guadeloupe where my husband has been diving in Port Louis (Grande Terre) and off the island of Marie-Galante. Both very easy diving (no current). Many colourful corals and sponges. No real big fish though.
Don't know about casino's.
Lots of small very nice white sandy beaches with palmtrees.
Furthermore abundant tropical vegetation on Basse Terre where there is also the famous Réserve Cousteau (around the îlets de Pigeon). Must be an excellent dive spot.
Knowledge of French is an absolute plus!
