Scuba Diving
I'm looking to plan a scuba diving trip in May or June of this year. I want to pick an island/hotel that has great scuba diving and is also relaxing and private (romantic). My plan is to scuba dive, sit on the beach and read a book and enjoy some local food. Any advice on which island/resort?

Message: Promethia,
There are a few decent islands/places I would recommend for some R&R and good diving without being too busy. Grand Turk in the Turks & Caicos has great diving very close to shore. Belize also has very good diving. Little Cayman Island and Bonaire are also very good. Depending on where you stay, you will find a laid back environment at most of these places. Hope this helps. If you need more info let me know.

We stumbled onto the Jalousie Hilton St. Lucia last year by luck-the diving was great and the hotel quite romantic--we are older--57-- and they offered a plunge pool --and my 1st reaction was why a plunge pool after being in the ocean all day diving--well not to reveal too much -tmi --too much information--the plunge pool was very nice--i think you would definitely like the Jalousie--the rooms built into the hillside were very secluded and romantic--and the diving was fine--so were the plunge pools

Try The Reef Resort on the east end of Grand Cayman. Very quiet, laid back, and excellent dive shop on site (Ocean Frontiers). Check out their website: www.thereef.com.ky

I like the Cayman Diving Lodge on the (relatively) secluded east end of Grand Cayman Island. Worlds away from the hustle-bustle of Seven Mile Beach.

We were looking for somthing similar and have booked Cayman Brac Reef Resort on Cayman Brac. Some of the worlds best diving is near the Brac and Little Cayman. I think a lot really depends on how much you want to do "topside." If you don't need a lot of activites/nightlife but want great diving and surroundings this might be for you.
Agree w/previous posters recommendations and would add Saba and the Virgin Islands to the list. (So many dive spots, so little time.)
Here are some websites I found useful in planning our dive trip:
The following site has member trip reports from readers of Scuba Diving Magazine- usually more emphasis on diving than amenities:

Cayman Islands

Scubamom site - a Fodors poster who has reviewed many of Carribbean Islands/ scuba resorts, esp. good for Virgin Islands resorts:
