You can go on the sandals website...it is supposed to open Feb. 10. It is gonna be huge...it took almost 14 years to build because the foundation kept sinking. I stayed at Sandals Montego Bay which was very nice. Next year we are renting a villa with our own cook and housekeeper...it is actually cheaper than the all inclusives

Villa life is awesome, especially if you are going in a group or want a romantic alone sort of vacation.
Where are you staying? We'll be in a villa in Treasure Beach (not far from Whitehouse) in 6 weeks....

Locals are calling it 'Drop City' as if an entire city was suddenly dropped into the middle of nowhere. It's big/nobody knows the impact yet other than drivers/traffic since most Sandals
people tend to stay inside the self-contained resort; Black River and YS will see tour impact, definitely.

Opens 15 Feb but first two weeks very hard to get reservation for, esp. since it's Feb school vacation time when you need to book real early anywhere in islands. Weather generally far better in Jamaica late April-early May with June rainy; July to early August thru mid October also, barring tropic storms, good times to visit.

KIM: Have someone search out ORAL KERR, a good if erratic jeweler in Belmont and GERRY WILLIAMS, a carver who often sets up a small roadside stand there
or the wholesale straw/basket warehouse
near Black River if you go out and about. If you can find a reliable
double motor minimum big boat, a trip out to the Pedro Cays during bird season can be exhilirating/fish en route it;s a long trip with no facilities whatsoever once there. These cays are stop-overs/base for fishers and refuge for 'bad boys' so they're rough, wild and lawless.

rbzombie, there are so many!!
For a look at what's out there:
www.jamaicaescapes.com
www.treasurebeach.net
www.jamaicavillas.com
...should get you started.
There are villas that are privately owned and not part of a resort, there are villas that are a part of a larger resort (like Tryall, Silver Sands, Round Hill), there are some by the sea with private beach and some in the hills with breezes and views.
Most all come staffed with a maid, cook and gardener/caretaker, some higher-end ones have butlers and bartenders as well.
There are a lot of options around MoBay, Ocho Rios, Treasure Beach and Portland. Not so many (but a few) in Negril.
