San Juan, Puerto Rico Hotel
I am going on a cruise leaving from San Juan, Puerto Rico and will be arriving the day before. What is a good hotel to stay in for the 1 night? Should I stay near the airport or close to the port downtown?

Unless you want to be on the beach, I'd stay at the Sheraton across the street from the cruise pier (or at least in a hotel in Old San Juan that is an easy trip to the cruise pier). If you want to stay on the beach, look for a hotel in Condado (the Marriott, La Concha, the Condado Plaza, etc.).
The only real drawback to the Sheraton is that it can be expensive. But it's a nice hotel and makes it so easy to get to the pier the next day that you will have a few more hours in the morning for Old San Juan.

We are not beach people. Anything in Old San Juan that is not expensive? We have been to Puerto Rico a few times on cruises so sightseeing is not a concern. Do any of the hotels have shuttles from the airport?

Hotels in the San Juan area are not permitted to have shuttles from the airport. A taxi from the airport to Old San Juan will run around $20-25 (not sure of the exact price but the rates are set by zone). There are a number of smaller hotels in Old San Juan ranging from expensive to more budget-oriented. I've only stayed at El Convento but that is not inexpensive. Best bet is to just do a search and check reviews. If you don't care about sightseeing in Old San Juan, then you should also search hotels in Condado. That will give you more options.

The Gallery Inn is probably the cheapest good hotel in Old San Juan. We also recommend the Casablanca Hotel; after El Convento, it's probably the nicest hotel in the area, but it's undergoing some renovations right now, so there will be dust and construction noise during the week. But it can be pretty cheap. I'd price all the options to see if the Sheraton is workable for you because of its convenience. But there are definitely several choices.
