We're traveling to the Bahamas in early May and wondering how safe it is to travel with a 4yr old . We are staying at the Atlantis and don't plan on traveling much outside of the resort. Thank you,

You'll be as safe or safer than you are "back home". Just use common sense and you and your family will be just fine.
Thank you RoamsAround. I appreciate your response.
I was in Nassau with a 5 year-old, 3 year-old and a 1-year-old (the fourth hadn't been born yet). I never even THOUGHT about safety being an issue. I'm curious ... what do you think the safety issue would be in the Bahamas?
There are, of course, safety issues in the bahamas, as there are in any country.
Places like Atlantis (or Disney) don't let on what goes on within their property with 8000 or more "strangers" roaming thier grounds each day.. not to discount the crime issues in Nassau.
You should stay within the tourist corridor, stay with others, don't flash your money or jewelry, and be aware of your surroundings.
I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't enjoy the bahamas, but certainly take off the rose colored glasses while your here.
