Safest Islands for Us?
I am planning a trip the end of June 2017 for my oldest daughters highschool graduation. It will be myself, her, and her 15 year old sister. My daughter has requested a tropical vacation. We just went to Hawaii so I'm looking at the Caribbean Islands. Initially I was considering Puerto Rico or USVI but I'm open to any. What islands would you consider the safest for 3 women? I like to be able to let my kids go to the pool or the beach in the early evening without me and not have to worry. Plus we are adventurers, I do not want to have to worry every time we go to a new beach. I realize there is crime everywhere and we definitely stay aware of our surroundings, but I don't want to pick an island that puts us at more risk than necessary.
Thank you in advance!

If you use common sense most islands are safe, especially for tourists.
Obviously, by definition the more populated islands have the potential for more crime but no island is crime free. With that in mind, you might want to research the less populated islands since they are generally considered to be among the "safest". Among them are:
St. John
St Croix
Anguilla
Virgin Gorda
Tortola
Jost Van Dyke
St. Barth's
St. Kitts
Nevis
Grand Cayman
Dominica
GrenadaTurks & Caicos
All of the Bahamas Out-Islands

I think "crime" more often depends on your own actions than what island you pick.
Though I'd guess that the higher crime rate islands (in terms of personal property, not violence) are the poorest ones.
I have never once had even a brush with local "crime" and have visited (many of these trips solo female): Dominican Republic (2x), Jamaica (3x), USVI (1x), Mexico (27x), Hawaii (6x).

I would highly recommend St. Lucia. It's relatively safe and I would say the definition of tropical. There are beautiful beaches and awesome resorts there. But for an outing you can also check out zip lining trips, waterfalls rainforest walks etc. The topography is stunning, very green, lush steep mountains, deep valleys, lovely beaches a drive-in volcano!! The east side of the island is Atlantic so the coast line was breathtaking, with steep cliffs falling straight into the rough waters. The West side is just the opposite. The hills role smoothly into the calm clear waters of the Caribbean sea. I was just an awesome vacation for my self and my family. We walked around the streets through local villages at nights and didn't feel threatened once. Actually that's where we got the best food while there. So for me, if you want that 'tropical' getaway then St. Lucia is a definitely one to consider.

I would not choose St. Croix. Many people believe that the gun violence is out of hand in St. Croix
