Runaway Hill with 2 small children?
Is this a crazy idea with a 3 y.o. and 1 y.o.? We're looking for something with 2 bedrooms on the beach. I also looked at Valentines Resort, but can't get an idea of it's location (beach front?) and have not found any reviews. Does anyone have any info? Thanks.

I'd suggest Coral Sands or Romora Bay as better choices for your stay on Harbour Island. Unless things have really changed at Runaway, kids under 15 were not welcome.
Runaway is small and more like an upscale B&B, with lovely rooms and a common area for relaxation and dinner/breakfast and a bar that overlooks the pool/beach/water.
Coral Sands is also on the water, has a lovely pool area, and has suites the website is www.coralsands.com.
Romora Bay is on the bay side of the island, has a lovely pool/deck/common areas and has an excellent restaurant. The accomodations are villas overlooking the water. For small ones Romora might be a better fit. www.romorabay.com
There are also lovely houses on island that you can rent on the water or intown close overlooking the bay or in other parts of town, and anything is going to be close to the water the entire island is only 3 miles long by 1/2 a mile wide.
Golf carts are the local transportation and of course most people walk everywhere, so you might bring a stroller for the kids.
Have a great time and if you need any other info, please let me know.

Thanks, travelbuff. This is exactly the type of info I was looking for. I was afraid my kiddos might not be especially welcomed at Runaway Hill
I've looked at Coral Sands, too. Frankly, at $1520/night for a 2 bedroom, it's totally out of my price range (not to mention that it seems incredibly high compared to anything else on HI).
Just checked out Romora Bay, at your suggestion, but their site isn't very helpful -- no rates, no real information on the accomodations and the "contact us" doesn't work.
We always love the idea of home rentals. Any idea where I can begin the search for one?
Also, do you know anything about Valentines Resort?

Valentine's is on the bay side of the island, and has a nice pool area. I think the prices there would be a bit lower.
I'd suggest calling Romora Bay (and mention that you got the contact from me, Gail Tweedy or through the New York Festival Chorus), and see what the rates are now. The villas are very cute and would be very comfortable for a family.
Coral Sands is HOW MUCH for a suite? That's probably the private home they have available. The suites there are nice but I am a bit shocked at the sticker price.
There are MANY homes on island that would also work and you could pick up groceries at the Piggly Wigly or at Johnson's so you can eat in breakfast/lunch which might be good for the kiddies. Also Arthur's Bakery is AMAZING for the fresh bread and pasteries every morning.
Island Realty has alot of homes available all over the island and you can get their website from www.briland.com
Also www.myharbourisland.com is another good resource.
If Miss Rica is still the chef at Runaway, you MUST have dinner there, she is an amazing cook. Also Romora Bay, Pink Sands and Coral Sands have good dinner options.
I also like Miss Mae's, Arthur's and Angela's for lunch (Angela does the BEST conch salad on island) There are also a few new spots on island that I've not tried yet.
Hope this helps.

Are you interested in renting a house?
Go to
www.Briland.com
www.myharbourisland.com
as Travelbuff mentioned.
(Yes, the rate for the 2bd beach house at Coral is very expensive and very posh. You are beach front and that comes at a price. The 3bd private house is actually cheaper!)
Just wondering where Wantsomesun is these days.
She always has info for Harbour Island!
