BF and I (early 30s) had planned romantic getaway to Riviera Maya for five days in late May. We've discussed the pandemic situation at length this week and have decided to switch the destination to Punta Cana (no charge to switch from JetBlue).
Our original hotel in Mexico was Secrets Capri, a nice all-inclusive. We'd like to spend less than $500/night. We don't have to have an all-inclusive but happy to consider. We'd like to have a good location, near nightlife, excursions, etc. Nice beach always a plus! Also interested in learning about any must-do activities, really good restaurants, etc.
Thanks in advance -- don't know much about Punta Cana and trying to learn quickly due to last minute switch!

I recently booked a trip to Majestic Elegance in PC. It looks very nice, is new and there is an adults only section. Many of the hotels in PC get bad reviews. This one has a lot of +ve reviews on trip advisor. Not sure about nightlife etc as we don't care about that stuff.
Take a look at Tortuga Bay in Punta Cana. I've wanted to stay there for a long time. We just haven't made it to the DR yet. Lots of raving reviews on Trip Advisor.

Scroll down and click on "Tortuga Bay" on the right side.
Look into Excellence Punta Cana. It is an adults only resort with great service and good food.
PC is different from Mexico in that there is not as much to do off the resort. It is not a good idea to go wandering around on your own there. It's not like in Mexico where you just go on your own into Playa for a night.
I agree with the previous poster about Excellence Punta Cana. Here are several photos of the resort's pools, guest rooms and beach.

We've stayed at the Melia Caribe Tropical ( http://www.meliacaribetropical.com ) which seems to meet your requirements. It is all inclusive and is a pretty nice resort. We probably spent 75% of our week vacation within the resort but the location wasn't bad to check out other stuff. Good luck.
