ROMANTIC DINNER FOR VERY SPECIAL OCCASION- seeking advice

seeking advice for a romantic dinner celebrating a very special occasion- My wife & I will be in Bermuda Memorial Day weekend, celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. I want to get reservations for a romantic dinner at a really fine restaurant - with ocean view, preferably. I was strongly considering the Cambridge Beach Resort dinner on the beach ( in fact have tentatively reserved a table for sunset) . While I realize Bermuda is expensive, and I'm willing to spend for this special occasion, I thought that $500, excluding tip, might be pushing the limit a bit for us. ( I expect to spend $300, maybe even $400ish), but over $500 is a bit "hard for me to swallow"- so to speak. Any recommendations ? Thanks for any recommendations.

You'd be hard pressed to spend $500 on dinner at Cambridge Beaches unless you ordered a VERY EXPENSIVE bottle of wine. Dinner there is more in the $200 to $250 range, including cocktails and a decent bottle of wine.

Hi Bruce,

The Reefs Hotel offers dinner directly on the beach.

From the website:
Dinner for two on the beach

Indulge in the ultimate romantic dinner for two. Dine at the water's edge under the stars and bathed in the soft glow of a tiki torch. With the stage set, we'll serve a special six-course meal complete with a glass of champagne. Beach dining is available for an additional charge and advance reservations are required.

I understand your desire to dine directly on the water. We have travelled to Bermuda often and have enjoyed our "special" dinners at Fourways and also Ascots. Neither one is on the water, but both are wonderful.

Read the reviews and see if any appeal to you.

The reference might be for private dining at Cambridge Beaches which would cost about $500. We booked to eat at their casual beach restaurant, but it was closed due to bad weather. Unfortunately, they didn't call to tell us they closed the restaurant (we had a local cellphone number) and we only found out once we arrived at the hotel (by taxi which wasn't cheap). Their other indoor restaurant was open, but we were not allowed to dine in it because we were not dressed smart enough for it (as there isn't a dress code for dining outside). They didn't make an exception, even though they were at fault by not informing us of the closure of the restaurant, then we could have changed clothing and dined indoors. That's the only experience I have of Cambridge Beaches.

We ate at the Reef Hotel several times, the beach is beautiful there and the food in Coconuts very good. It is a casual place though. I think you could find several places to spend a few hundred $$$ on a meal, but the best food might not be found in beachfront restaurants.

Thanks for this. I also think West coast in Barbados could have been a nice addition. Believe me you will love this place (and its people).

Thanks Bette,
The Reefs sounds good, I'll also check out Fourways and Ascots. THANKS for the recommendations. I don't necessarily have a desire to dine "directly" on the beach, but rather outdoors with a water view. I just thought the Cambridge Beach private dinner sounded really neat, VERY romantic, but I don't know about you, but the $ 500+ cost kinda deflates the romance for me. I understand that Bermuda is a bit pricey, but that seems a bit "over-the-top.

Yes Odin, my reference to a $500 meal was to the Cambridge Beach private dining deal. I thought that sounded neat, but i don't know about you- the $500+ cost kinda takes the romance away for me. You might very well be right though, beachfront dining might NOT be exactly what I'm looking for. We're celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary, so I'm looking for a really spectacular meal. I'm willing to go all out with the cost, and spend more than I normally would - but $500 for a meal exceeds my limits I think- would likely cause me indigestion. Heck, I appreciate good food, but after all, it's only a meal !

Having had many "special" meals in Bermuda I would think you could do this for $280-$300. For us this includes a drink before dinner, a bottle of wine with dinner and an after-dinner drink for my husband. Remember that menu prices in Bermuda include gratuities and taxes (generally) so keep that in mind when reviewing costs.

For the food, I'd go with Ascots or Fourways.
For the view, I'd pick Blu or The Reefs.
For a combination, I'd choose Tucker's Point.
