Riu Negril vs Riu tropical Bay

We were booked at Tropical Bay in Negril for January. Our travel agent, without our knowing about it, "upgraded" us to Riu Negril. I'm a little disappointed as all the comments about Riu Negril indicate the beach & water is not very good at all. Not as good as the Tropical.

They are supposed to be rennovating that beach as we speak. Can anyone comment on this and compare the two resorts? We ae primarily beach people.
