Ritz Carlton in St. Thomas vs. Cayman?
My husband and I are planning a trip for June and we've narrowed our choices down to the Ritz in either St. Thomas or the Caymans. We're going for 7-8 nights so leaning towards St. Thomas b/c it seems like there's more to do/see/go to from there. Any suggestions on which is the nicer property? Also has anyone been to the Ritz in St. Thomas recently and be able to offer an opinion? I read somewhere about a lot of stray cats roaming around the restaurants...

I haven't been to the Ritz in St. Thomas, though we stayed at the RC in Grand Cayman this past December. We really enjoyed our stay, but with 7-8 nights would choose the Virgin Islands since you can island hop. Better yet, I would choose Caneel Bay or Little Dix Bay over St. Thomas.

The Ritz is very nice here on St. Thomas and mah1980 is correct. You can day-trip to St. John or the BVI's very easily. There are lots of restaurants in the east end where the Ritz is also. Caneel Bay & Little Dix Bay are both lovely but totally different in style. I don't think you'll be disappointed in the Ritz.

The Ritz is gorgeous. Even tho St. Thomas has the reputation of being so touristy & cruise-ship inundated, we had an absolutely fabulous time. We rented a Jeep and explored the island from top to bottom. We also spent a day on a rental boat & island hopped to Tortola, St. John & Jost Van Dyke. It was absolutely gorgeous!
Cayman, on the other hand, is just not nearly as geographically beautiful, to me at least. Talk about overrun with cruiseships & tourists....I just don't really care for it. The water is beautiful, but thats about it. If you do end up there, go over to Rum Point, that was the highlight of our trip there.

Have you considered splitting your stay between Caneel Bay on St. John and Little Dix Bay? The two are sister resorts and offer a water shuttle service between them. Plus, Caneel is offering some very favorable rates for the summer season right now. You might also save a little buy buying a package that includes both.
The Ritz-Carlton in St. Thomas is a beautiful resort, so I don't think you'll be disappointed staying there, but if you can get a good deal at Caneel, you should consider it.

We stayed at Caneel a few years ago & I am 99% sure we had A/C. My DH would have been miserable without it. It is a very different feel from the Ritz but one of our most memorable vacations. I can't imagine a more perfect property!
