Hello. I'm trying to decide between these three resorts in Puerto Rico, Rio Mar (Wyndham), Gran Melia, or El Conquistador. We could also go to Dorado Del Mar, but I think I want to be on the East side of the island. I'm looking for a very well kept property with very good service and, of course, a beautiful location. I was at the El Conquistador resort around 5-6 years ago, but it was kind of a zoo. I think they had some kind of special going, and it was crowded and too rowdy. I like a place with good service and nice clean rooms. Bad service and rude people makes it hard to relax and enjoy yourself.
Rio Mar (Wyndham), Gran Melia, or El Conquistador in Puerto Rico?

We spent a week at the Wyndham last month. I don't think we'll go back. The location is very remote, and although the public areas of the hotel were nice, the rooms were nothing special. More importantly, the eight on site restaurants were on a rotation schedule because it was the "slow season", so some of them were closed each night. Not that it really mattered, since the food ( except at PALIO) was expensive and varied between mediocre and bad. We wound up getting a car and eating dinner most nights in Loquillo at the kiosks, where we found delicious and authentic Puerto RIcan food.
The beach right in front of the hotel was disappointing. It could be really nice, especially since the Atlantic side is perfect some days for great body surfing, but during our stay the beach was covered in litter. I'm sorry to write such a negative review, but I'm sure that there have got to be better places to stay in Puerto Rico. This just isn't one of them.
