I'm thinking of coming to Cuba in late March/early April. Which do you think is the better resort, Rio de Oro or Beaches? I've heard good things about both but wondered if one tipped the scales over the other. I don't want somewhere overrun with kids. Also, what sort of weather should I expect at that time of year?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Rio de Oro or Beaches Varadero??

I had exactly the same question... and it came down to beaches, only because melia rio de oro was sold out from western canada for mid march. i would advise booking soon if you want to travel within the next month. Both resorts get great reviews. Beaches is adults only. Melia allows kids but i don't think there are many there. If you are a beach person, Beaches would be better as it is on Varadero beach while the melia apparantly has smaller beaches, and it is a bit of a walk down to the beach.
Now I'm confused!! Someone's now thrown Tryp Peninsular resort in to the mix, telling me that Beaches is only a 4* resort and Tryp is a 5 and much nicer..
Hi Mitch....we decided to go for beaches and just got back from wonderful 7 day trip. I was told that there are no 5 stars in cuba, with the exception of the new sandals that is currently under construction.
Beaches is wonderful. We went up the road and saw the tryp, it looked way bigger but very nice.
You probably have decided where to go by now, but hopefully you have a good time!
