rincon, puerto rico for non-surfing adults?

We have been to Vieques and loved it and may go back, but I was hoping for a slightly easier place to get to and came across home rentals in Rincon. It seems like a young surfing crowd goes there and I am wondering if it will be nice for people like us - a middle aged non-surfing couple with two adult daughters in their 20s who also don't surf.
Thanks in advance!

The first time we went to PR, we stayed in Rincón at the Blue Boy Inn. Excellent but not inexpensive. We are in our early 70's and don't surf but do snorkel. We used Rincón as our travel spot for the west end of the island. There is a snorkeling place near the Blue Boy as well as some good restaurants. From Rincón, there are easy ways to get to the Arecibo Observatory and the Camuy Caves as well as south to Cabo Rojo/Boqueron and wildlife refuges and perhaps the zoo in Mayaguez.

We were in Vieques 2 weeks ago and think you will find the mainland PR to be considerably different but fun to visit. Use one of the travel guides to PR (The Rough Guide or Moon's guide) to get you around. I have found both to be accurate and up to date.

Have fun. Puertoricans are generally tolerant, helpful and mild mannered (except when driving).

Rincon is great for all ages. There is a tendency for the younger crowd to stay in the Puntas area, where there are many great beach bars with music and party. Consider the Corcega or Barerro area or just do a seach on Google for "Rincon Puerto Rico Beachfront villas". There you'll get a nice list of rentals on the beachfront. After you find a place, Google it for reviews to see how others have felt there. OldAnalyst makes a good point. General rules here is ugly car has the right of way!

Thanks to Oldanalyst (are you a shrink?) and luisortiz. I am still agonizing about Rincon vs Vieques, but these are very helpful tips.

I'm not a shrink but a retired college chemistry teacher. I wish you well in your decision making. You can always go back! We like PR so much we took our youngest son and family (3 kids under 10) with us last month. We probably will return to PR and will split our time between Vieques and the Rincon areas since we like both.

Which destination did you choose? Inquiring minds want to know! My (old, non-surfing) husband and I absolutely ADORE Rincon. Check out the Parrot Room at the Coconut Palms Inn or Villa Ensenada. Both are on quiet beaches a bit removed from the surfer crowd. (But make time to watch those kids in action. They are AMAZING!)

Rincon's northern beaches are on the Atlantic and are surfing beaches, with a young, active crowd, bars and late night activities. Rincon's southern beaches are on the Caribbean, calmer, swimming and snorkeling beaches. Mostly "older" crowd or families with young children. The beaches are not crowded, not noisy, very relaxed and laid back atmosphere. You should just make sure you are south of town. Many, many non-surfers love Rincon and come year after year to the swimming beaches. Corcega Beach is the best, calm beach.
